The miracle of nature is that whenever there has been a challenge, there is an organism that has found a way to conquer it. Want to live a life of zero waste? Nature has done it! What to live in the desert with no water? Nature has done it? Want to live a more meaningful and prosperous life? Nature has done it!
There are just over 8.7 million described plants and animals on Earth which are essentially individual science experiments, perpetually testing out new ways of doing things in order to find a better way. Since we all live under the same laws of nature and under the same conditions of planet Earth, it makes sense that we learn from the inner workings of the natural world to overcome the challenges of modern life.
The Biomimicry Workshop is based upon the content of Jonathan Leeming’s award winning book, One World. This workshop examines those aspects of the natural world that we are so familiar with, and uncovers the genius of nature through highlighting the extraordinary in the ordinary.
The workshop begins with an exploration of the environment by examining common aspects and what we can learn from them. We’ll be looking at these aspects in terms of how they are formed, how they function and how they are part of a system. And how these 3 levels of biomimicry can help us overcome the challenges of our time.
After the walk, we will find a spot for a rest and an interactive workshop session. This transformative workshop explores the question, what can we learn from nature to live happier, healthier and more meaningful lives?
The Biomimicry Workshop consists of a 2 hour facilitator led practical workshop exploring how nature can help us overcome the challenges of our time.
An understanding how nature overcomes challenges of our time and how we can live healthier, happier and more meaningful lives. Suitable for all ages and any natural area.
When I booked for this walk, I did not know what biomimicry was, but someone else said you were great and that I should attend. I now understand the importance of the natural world, how much we rely upon it and how important it is to as you say "pause our daily lives and get back to basics".
We all (my family) loved the way you presented the walk, as an exploration of Kloofendal Nature reserve. Your links to plants and animals that offer benefits to us, opened my eyes to the value of those common things. I loved your biomimicry cards that made us think.
After the walk I made a conscious attempt to live more alined to nature. Thank you for your effort in hosting this event. You have another raving fan!
Hi Margie, thank you for the comments!
Biomimicry links humanity back to the natural world, a world that give us the basic requirements for life. I consider my biomimicry walks as a vital activity that everyone should attend, simply because resets our mind out of the "this is how it is done| mentality, and offers solutions to some of the most pressing challenges that we are all facing today.
Brilliant, eye opening, life changing. Thank you so much! Everyone need to go on this walk.
Hi Johan
Thank you for your comments! Yes, with all the pressures of modern life, I believe that everyone should spend time with me on this walk.
Jonathan
This was a wonderful day in a beautiful setting with interesting information from Jonathan and the participants. If we could only learn to live differently and stop destroying our beautiful planet! This walk gave me an incentive to educate people on what biomimicry is and I have forwarded the video to friends and family hoping to inspire more people.
Thank you Jonathan, this will not be the last you see of us 🙂
Today I accompanied Jonathan Leeming, Biomimicry Walk wherein he guided us on a practical exploration of Kloofendal Nature Reserve wherein we discovered how natures organisms find ways of overcoming and conquering its challenges.
